DETROIT (8/22/2023) -- The full schedule is now out for the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team as the Titans will open and close the league slate against #MetroSeries-rival Oakland, the Horizon League announced today.
Detroit Mercy will welcome the Golden Grizzlies into Calihan Hall almost a week after Thanksgiving on Wednesday, Nov. 29. With the league doing away with full travel partners, the opening week will conclude with the red, white and blue visiting Cleveland State on Dec. 2.
"I want to commend our administrators and coaches on their hard work and commitment to basketball excellence and improvement throughout the development of this new scheduling approach," said Horizon League Commissioner Julie Roe Lach. "The modernized model emphasizes student-athlete experience by improving travel, rest and preparation time, allowing our student-athletes to compete at peak performance throughout the season and improving competitive equity and balance across our League."
After that, the team will go back into non-conference play before closing out the 2023 calendar year at IUPUI on Dec. 29 and at Purdue Fort Wayne on Dec. 31.
The Titans will have four home games in January as Green Bay and Milwaukee come to town on Jan. 4 and 6, respectively, while NKU heads into the Motor City on Jan. 13.Â
After a quick trip to Robert Morris on Jan. 17, the only Titan basketball doubleheader of the year will have the men facing defending regular-season champion Youngstown State on Jan. 20, which follows the women taking on Milwaukee. The month ends with a trip to Wisconsin to battle Milwaukee (Jan. 25) and Green Bay (Jan. 27).
In February, the Titans will have five home games starting with Cleveland State and Robert Morris on Feb. 1 and 3, respectively. After a road swing at Wright State on Feb. 8 and at NKU on Feb. 10, the final three-game homestand will have the red, white and blue hosting IUPUI on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), Purdue Fort Wayne (Feb. 17) and Wright State (Feb. 22).Â
The regular season will end on the road at Youngstown State on Feb. 28 and at Oakland on Mar. 2.
The Horizon League Championship will keep the same format, with the first round and quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and title game back in Indianapolis at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.Â
