DETROIT (9-14-23) - Senior
Erica Toupin scored her second goal of the season and assisted graduate student
Hailey Matthews' game-winning goal to lead Detroit Mercy to a 2-1 #HLWSOC opening win over visiting Youngstown State on Thursday night. The Titans have now won three consecutive games and moved to a perfect 12-0 all-time record against YSU at Titan Field.

Jazmine Scott picked up her third consecutive win in goal making three saves with the only goal she surrendered coming off a deflection.
Just before halftime, Lodato took the ball and moved deep down the right side past a Penguin defender. She then sent a cross into the box that went right to Toupin who fired a laser shot past YSU goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick in the 41st minute giving the Titans a 1-0 lead.
UDM took a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute of the second half as Toupin took a long feed and held off two YSU defenders before slotting the ball to a wide-open Matthews who connected on a beautiful left-footed shot that floated past Kirkpatrick's out-stretched arms into the back of the net.
YSU cut the lead in half in the 78th minute. In the 86th minute, the Penguins appeared the get the equalizer but the goal was disallowed due to an offensive handball inside the box.
