HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (9-23-23) - Sophomore
Tim Allos picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season as his second-half game-winner off a feed from senior
Saeid Jannoun propelled Detroit Mercy to a big 1-0 #HLMSOC road win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday night at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore
Quinn Tews was outstanding in goal making five saves to record his third consecutive win and first career shutout.
"A solid, committed and gritty 90-minute performance from the entire team tonight" said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "To go on the road and secure three points in league play is incredibly important as we continue further into the season. We were able to execute in the right moments in the attack and then showed the fight needed to keep the clean sheet. We will stay true to the process as we move forward and prepare for the game in front."
Both teams played even in a scoreless first half. Sophomore
Guershom Sylvain and freshman
Josh Copeland each posted shots on goal.
Detroit Mercy (3-6-0, 2-1 HL) finally broke through in the 70th minute of the second half. Jannon took a throw-in and moved between three defenders deep down the right side. He then slotted the ball over to a wide-open Allos who got behind the defense and took a one-time shot past NKU (1-4-3, 1-2 HL) goalkeeper Nic Lemen giving the Titans a 1-0 lead.
The Titans came close to adding an insurance goal in the 84th minute but junior
Baldeep Gill's shot hit the post.
NKU had a chance for the equalizer late in the game during the 88th minute with a shot from close range but Tews stood tall making the save to preserve the clean sheet.
