Detroit Mercy Falls to #HLWBB Leader Green Bay

DETROIT (1-18-24) - Junior Emma Trawally Porta just missed a double-double scoring a team-high 11 points with nine rebounds while senior Irene Murua also reached double-figures with 10 points and six rebounds as Detroit Mercy suffered a 75-48 setback to #HLWBB leader Green Bay on Thursday night at Calihan Hall.

Graduate student Imani McNeal chipped in with seven points while senior Lucia Fleta Robles added six points going 2-for-3 from long range.

Green Bay's (15-3, 9-0 HL) defense proved to be the difference as the Phoenix had 12 steals and scored 30 points off 22 Detroit Mercy (11-8, 4-4 HL) turnovers compared to 14 points off 11 GB turnovers.

The game was nip and tuck to open to start as Green Bay led 8-7 by the first media time-out. The Phoenix then went on a 7-0 run to move ahead 15-7 before a jumper from McNeal ended the spurt followed by back-to-back buckets from Murua to cap off a 6-0 run pulling the Titans within two points at 15-13 to end the frame.

The Phoenix turned up the defense in the second quarter outscoring UDM 17-8 to move ahead by 11 points at 32-21 at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, Twally Porta, McNeal, and senior Jada Moorehead converted three consecutive buckets. However, Green Bay had their best quarter scoring 25 points while holding the Titans to 11 points to take a commanding 57-32 lead and never looked back.

Fleta Robles came off the bench and hit two consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter scoring six of the Titans' 16 points.

Detroit Mercy concludes their two-game home stand against Milwaukee as the first leg of a doubleheader with the men's team on Saturday, Jan 20, at 1 p.m.
