HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (1-31-24) - Senior Irene Murua was one of three players in double figures scoring a team-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six rebounds as Detroit Mercy was upset at Northern Kentucky, 73-54, on Wednesday afternoon at Truist Arena. 

Sophomore Amaya Burch added 11 points while grabbing five rebounds while freshman Paris Gilmore chipped in with 10 points with two steals.

Junior Emma Trawally Porta grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with six points, two blocks, and two steals while senior Jada Moorehead also posted six points with eight rebounds. Graduate student Imani McNeal dished out a team-best four assists while adding five points with a steal.

Detroit Mercy (14-9, 7-5 HL) got off to a great start in the first quarter going 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the field to take a 19-12 lead. However, the second and third quarters proved to be the Titans' undoing.

NKU (5-15, 3-8 HL) opened up the third quarter on an 8-0 run and outscored UDM 16-8 to take a 28-27 lead at the 2:06 mark and 19-8 overall before Gilmore hit a layup with 14 ticks left pulling the Titans within two points at 31-29 at the half.

The Norse then took command in the third quarter and never looked back, shooting 8-for-16 (50.0%) from the field scoring 24 points while holding UDM to only nine points to take a 55-38 lead into the fourth.  

In the fourth quarter, Burch and Gillmore had back-to-back buckets cutting the lead to 10 points at 60-50 with 5:49 to go. However, that would be as close as the Titans would get as NKU closed out the game on a 13-4 run.
