DETROIT (10-20-24) - Graduate student
Joyelle Washington posted her sixth goal of the season off freshman
Kyleen Bradow's third career assist, but it was not enough as Detroit Mercy saw its #HLMSOC unbeaten streak come to an end with a 2-1 setback to Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at Titan Field.
NKU (9-6-1, 6-1-1 HL) wasted little time getting on the board with a tally just nine minutes in the game and maintained the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Norse extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 53rd minute to open the second half.
However, Detroit Mercy (7-7-2, 5-1-2 HL) bounced back in lightning-quick fashion less than a minute later. Washington got the ball off the ensuing kickoff after the Norse goal and pressed down the middle of the field. She passed the ball over to Bradow on the left side, who tapped it back to Washington, who in turn slotted a shot past NKU goalkeeper Megan Gessner, pulling the Titans within a goal at 2-1.
UDM had a great chance for the equalizer in the 86th minute as Toupin fired a free kick over the wall toward the low left corner of the goal, but Gessner made a diving save to keep the Titans at bay.
UDM stays at home for a #HLWSOC match against Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. on ESPN+. The game will be the second leg of a doubleheader with the men's team.
