INDIANAPOLIS (10-4-24) - Junior
Guershom Sylvain posted five shots with four on goal as Detroit Mercy came up short with a 1-0 setback at IU Indy in #HLMSOC action on Friday night at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Detroit Mercy (1-7-2, 0-2-2 HL) outshot IU Indy (4-4-2, 1-2-1 HL) 15-9 with five shots on goal while holding the Jaguars to only two shots on goal.
"We threw everything we had at them but couldn't get the goal needed to turn the game," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "This was a tough result on the road in league play and we are all disappointed. However, this is a good teaching moment to learn we need to be more clinical and finish off the chances we create in these tight games."
Both team defenses were up to the task for the majority of the first half until IU Indy finally broke through with a goal in the 35th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Sylvain had a great look at the equalizer in the 52nd minute. He got the ball in space and fired a shot to the right post but Jags keeper Mason Taylor made a diving save to keep the Titans off the board.
The best chance for UDM came late in the game during the 85th minute. Taylor came off his line and misplayed a cross to get out of position. The ball fell to junior
Tim Allos who had a look at a wide-open net but miss-hit the shot and missed wide right.
