MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (11-1-24) - With only three minutes left in the match and Detroit Mercy trailing 1-0, sophomore
Josh Copeland came up clutch, scoring the equalizer off the first career assist from junior
Spencer Powe along with junior
Casey McCarthy as the Titans escaped with a 1-1 draw and crucial #HLMSOC point at Robert Morris on Friday afternoon.
"This was a crucial result as the team displayed a resilient effort not to panic late in the game and find a way to score to earn a draw," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek." I am proud of the team, and now we have everything to play for in the last game against our arch-rival Oakland on Tuesday. There is not much more you could ask for!!"
Robert Morris (7-5-3, 4-2-2 HL) took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. The Colonials held on until the 86th minute when Detroit Mercy (3-9-4, 2-2-4 HL) finally broke through.
After RMU tried to stall deep in the right corner, the Titans got a throw-in and immediately went on the attack. The ball was sent across the field over to McCarthy, who sent in a long ball from mid-field to just outside the 18-yard line box, where Powe was able to run under and head the ball over to Copeland inside the box. He took a touch, flicking the ball up to himself with his right foot, and then fired a shot with his left into the lower right 90, tying the game at 1-1.
