Former #HLMSOC Goalkeeper of the Year, UDM President’s Award Winner, and DCFC Black Arrow MVP Award winner made club debut in 2016.

DETROIT (12-17-24) – Detroit Mercy Men's Soccer Alumni and Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) standout goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher announced his retirement from the club and professional football.
 
After his stellar career at Detroit Mercy, where he was named 2014 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year, 2015 UDM President's Award Winner, and tied for the program's career shutout mark (19), Steinwascher leaves as one of six City Centurions in club history and winner of the club's 2022 Black Arrow MVP Award.
 
He made his Detroit City FC debut on May 18, 2016 against Louisville City FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and played his final match for the club in the 2024 USL Championship's Eastern Conference Quarterfinal on November 2, 2024, marking a staggering 3,090 days between his first and last appearances for Le Rouge.
 
DCFC Highlights:
• 2022 Black Arrow MVP Award recipient
• Since the 2022 season, the club's first in the USL Championship, made 226 saves, keeping 30 clean sheets in 87 starts over three seasons.
• Posted an impressive save percentage of 75.1% and a Goals Against per 90 average of 0.98 during his time in the USL Championship.
• Been a member of the club during every crucial phase of Detroit FC's growth from the 4th-division, amateur, National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), to the "Unstoppable" National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) team of 2021, to the USL Championship in the second-tier of American professional soccer.
• Suited up as a training player in the club's inaugural season in 2012 and took part in a training session coached by all four head coaches in the history of the men's side from Kylie Stannard, to Ben Pirmann, to Trevor James, to Danny Dichio.
 
Detroit Mercy Highlights:
• Finished career tied for the program lead in shutouts (19).
• Ranked second in program history in goals against average (1.23), wins (27), and games started in goal (73) while ranking third in total saves (341), save percentage (.782) and minutes played (6,957)
• Named 2014 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year, Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and HL All-League First Team selection
• 2015 President's Award recipient, given to the most outstanding seniors who best exemplify the image of the complete student-athlete.
• 2015 Senior Class Award nominee, one of 30 in Division I across the nation and the only from the Horizon League.
• Eight-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week Award winner
• 2013 HL All-Newcomer Team selection
• Three-time Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll selection.
• Four-time UDM Athletic Director Academic Honor Roll selection.
