McQueen named Under Armour® Horizon League Player of the Week, Starks named Freshman of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS (12-23-24) – It was a clean sweep for the Detroit Mercy women's basketball team as fifth-year senior Aaliyah McQueen was named Under Armour® Horizon League Player of the Week while Kailey Starks earned Under Armour® Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors announced by the league office on Monday.

Highlights:
• McQueen, a native of Flint, Mich., scored 54 total points and grabbed 20 total rebounds to average a double-double at 27.0 ppg. and 10.0 rebounds per game, shooting a blistering 19-for-30 (63.3%) from the field, 6-for-11 (54.5%) from 3-point range, and 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the free throw line with four blocks (2.0 bpg) and three steals defensively (1.5 spg) to lead Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 record for the week.
• She just missed a double-double, scoring 24 points on 8-for-15 from the field, 6-for-7 from the free throw line, with a pair of triples, while grabbing nine rebounds and matching a career-best three blocks in UDM's win at YSU, moving the Titans to 2-0 in #HLWBB play.
• After that performance, McQueen took it to another level, dropping a huge double-double, scoring a Titan career-high 30 points on 11-for-15 shooting, 4-for-5 from 3-point range, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while grabbing 11 rebounds with two steals and a block to lead Detroit Mercy to a thrilling 79-71 double-overtime win at Valparaiso.
• McQueen is the second Titan player to score 30 points in seven years since Rosanna Reynolds scored 32  at Oakland on Jan. 7, 2017.

Highlights: 
• Starks, a native of Evanston, Ill., poured in a career-high 16 points, going 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free throw line, just missing a double-double with nine boards and three steals, helping Detroit Mercy to a thrilling 79-71 double-overtime win at Valparaiso
• With the pair of wins at YSU and Valpo, the Titans are 8-2 to start the season for the first time in 43 years since the 1981-82 season.
