Forrest Posts Career-High 13 Points as Titans Shut Down Robert Morris

Trawally Porta records second straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds

DETROIT (2-8-24)
- Freshman Kamari Forrest had quite the break-out game scoring in double figures for the first time with a career-high and team-best 13 points off a solid 9-for-12 from the free throw line and 2-for-4 the field with three boards as Detroit Mercy's lockdown defense propelled the Titans to a 68-49 win over Robert Morris on Thursday night at Calihan Hall. For the first time in her career, junior Emma Trawally Porta posted consecutive double-doubles (fifth of the season) scoring 12 points shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.

Detroit Mercy (15-10, 8-6 HL) has won the last four meetings to complete the series sweep over RMU (6-17, 2-12 HL) for the second consecutive season. After missing the last game, graduate student Imani McNeal was back in form with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Senior Irene Murua chipped in with eight points with four boards. Senior Lucia Fleta Robles and junior Latifa Amzil came off the bench in the fourth quarter and added five points each with a triple. Senior Jada Moorehead and sophomores Amaya Burch and Myonna Hooper also had four points each.

After a sluggish start, UDM turned up defense, holding the Colonials to just four points in the second quarter and 11 in the third quarter while turning up the offense outscoring RMU 31-6 over that span to take control of the game for good.

RMU jumped out to an 11-4 lead to open the game hitting three triples. Detroit Mercy responded as Moorehead hit consecutive jumpers followed by a layup from McNeal off a steal and a pair of Trawally Porta free throws which capped off a 10-0 giving the Titans a 14-13 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, UDM turned up the defense holding RMU to just four points while outscoring the Colonials 21-4 overall to close out the half with a 25-17 lead.

McNeal hit a triple as Detroit Mercy opened the 3rd quarter on a 10-2 run to take a commanding 35-19 lead. The Titans went on to score 20 points in the frame while holding RMU to 10 points to move ahead 45-27.

UDM posted a 10-4 spurt to open the fourth quarter and never looked back scoring 23 points in the frame to cruise to a 19-point win.

Detroit Mercy closes out their two-game #HLWBB home stand against Youngstown State on Thur., Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
