COLUMBUS, Ohio (3/2/2024) -- Graduate senior
Luke Majick notched his seventh career hat trick, but VMI was able to pull away late as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell, 15-10, in a neutral site game played at Liberty Olentangy High School in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Aidan Bishop had a career-high four points on two goals and two assists. Junior
Sean Henige registered a career-best three caused turnovers and seven ground balls, and junior
Ryan Richters made 13 saves in net with four ground balls. Sophomore
Drew Kessenich recorded two assists and graduate senior
Kyle Loken caused a turnover and a ground ball.
The Titans (0-2) took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Majick and Bishop, but VMI (4-2) answered with two of its own. Freshman
Sean Donahue gave the Titans the lead back at 3-2 with a goal at the 6:30 mark, but the Keydets tied it up less than a minute later.
Junior
Chase Mahabir put UDM ahead, 4-3, at the 4:32 marker with a goal, but VMI scored three straight for a 6-4 advantage early in the second. The Titans came right back to knot it at 6-6 as junior
Nolan Graalman and Bishop found the back of the net, and the game was tied later at 7-7 after Majick's second marker before the Keydets took a 9-7 lead at the break.
It was 10-7 midway through the third when Majick got his hat trick third goal to pull the team within two. Detroit Mercy was within two again at 11-9 as junior
Evan DeVito scored his first collegiate goal on his first-ever shot with 11:32 remaining in the fourth. The Titans trailed by just two again at 12-10 with 10:03 left as freshman
Owen Miller scored his first collegiate goal, but the Keydets ended the game with three straight markers.
Detroit Mercy will now head to New Jersey to face nationally-ranked Rutgers on Tuesday.

- The Titans are 5-3 all-time against VMI
- VMI was a conference rival in the MAAC from 2010-14
- In 2022, the red, white, and blue posted its biggest comeback in school history, trailing 9-1 in the first, only to storm back for a 16-11 triumph at home
- Detroit Mercy is now 5-11 all-time in neutral-site games.
- Majick now has 43 career goals and 70 career points
- Bishop's career high in points was three against Robert Morris last season, on three goals
- Henige's previous high was four ground balls and two caused turnovers
