Otten Wins 1,500 Preliminary Heat In Day One Of Horizon League Championships

Sophomore Joshua Otten won his heat in the 1,500-meters to qualify for the finals
ROCHESTER, Mich. (5/3/2024) -- Sophomore Joshua Otten qualified for the finals in the 1,500-meters and freshman Joshua Neary started his pursuit in the decathlon as the first day of the Horizon League Championships came to a close on Friday night.

The event is being held at Oakland University.

Otten won his heat in a time of 3:59.45, the third fastest time in the preliminaries.

Neary sits sixth in the decathlon with 2,756 points, but had a pair of second-place finishes running 11.96 in the 100m and 53.56 in the 400m.

FreshmanĀ Christopher Russelburg was 12th in the 10,000m in a time of 31:36.95, while graduate senior Zachary Zaborney placed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 36.93m.

Day two of the championships will start at 9:00 a.m. for the decathlon, noon for the throws and 3:00 p.m. for the running events.Ā
