Kolon Chosen To Coach In Annual USILA Senior All-Star

Head coach Chris Kolon will lead the DI/DII North Team at the USILA All-Star game.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (5/7/2024) -- University of Detroit Mercy head men's lacrosse coach Chris Kolon '09 (MBA) will have one more game on his career resume as he will be a part of the prestigious United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Senior All-Star Game, sponsored by Blatant Lacrosse, the organization announced.

He will coach the DI/DII North Team, marking the first time a Titan coach has ever been involved in the game.

The 2024 USILA Senior All-Star Game will be held on Friday, May 24, at Widener University in Chester, Pennslyvania. The Division III game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., followed by the Division I-Division II game at 6 p.m.

Coach Kolon announced in late April that he was stepping down after 16 seasons with the Titans, the last 10 as head coach. He was part of the first Detroit Mercy lacrosse team in 2009 and helped the program to a MAAC Championship and NCAA bid as an assistant in 2013. As a head coach, his first victory was a memorable one over Ohio State, and he would go on to lead the squad to its first three winning campaigns and a trip to the 2018 MAAC Championship. His teams always took home the highest academic accolades in All-League selections and honor roll recipients, and he has also coached 15 players who got drafted or played in the MLL, NLL, and PLL, with four capturing professional titles. In 2019, Kolon was named an assistant coach with the Atlas Lacrosse Club in the brand-new Premier Lacrosse League.

The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The North squad, coached by Princeton's Bill Logan, won that inaugural event with a 6-5 victory over the South team, coached by Maryland's Jack Faber. Sixty-six total games have been played with interruptions occurring only in with the exception of 1944 and 1945 the North/South games have been played each year without interruption.

In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games. The Division I-II game and the Division III game. This two-game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game but combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
