Allison Sherman Selected By Horizon League As A NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Allison Sherman was honored by the Horizon League as a NCAA Women of the Year nominee

INDIANAPOLIS (8/15/2024) - Her collegiate career might be over, but former University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country and track and field standout Allison Sherman continues to receive praise as the Horizon League tabbed her as one of its nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year.

Joining Sherman as a nominee is Cleveland State's softball player Jenna Deang.

Sherman majored in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Detroit Mercy and earned the Detroit Mercy President Award in 2024. Overall, she collected nine All-Academic Team honors in cross country and track and field. She earned All-League honors four times in cross country, broke a 20-year-old school record in the 10k this track and field season, and is also the Detroit Mercy record holder in the 5,000-meters.

She was also the Horizon League Sportsmanship award winner in cross country and the co-winner in indoor track and field.

Sherman volunteered at Detroit Mercy's Women in Sports Day, Calihan Trunk or Treating and the Detroit Free Press Marathon.

Since 1991, The NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership throughout their college careers.

Conference offices could choose up to two student-athletes from their member school nominations if at least one nominee was an international student-athlete or student-athlete of color.

The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division — from the conference-level nominees. The Top 30 honorees will be announced in the fall.
