DETROIT (1/21/2024) -- Seniors
Aidan Bishop and
Chase Mahabir and junior
Kyle Grant received the high honor of leading the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team announced its captains for 2025.
"After careful consideration and evaluation of our group over the last 4-5 months, these three guys have emerged as leaders for our team," said head coach
Charlie Hayes '18. "As we head into a new season and new chapter in our program, it was very important that we found leaders that embodied great work ethic, discipline, commitment, and buy-in. These three have embodied these values on a consistent basis. They have shown time and time again that they lead by example through their play, work ethic and support for their teammates."
Bishop has been in the starting line-up since he arrived in the Motor City, playing in 37 games with 34 starts. He has 50 career points on 39 goals and 11 assists and is coming off his best year, registering 21 goals and 26 points. He tied his career-high with three goals at Robert Morris and three goals with two assists at Lindenwood.
Mahabir has seen action in 30 games, with 11 starts, and posted a career-high 17 goals and 21 points as a junior. He posted his first career hat trick with three goals against Mercer, tallied a career-best four goals with a caused turnover at Robert Morris and then had a career-high five points on a career-tying four goals at Bellarmine.
Grant has played in 24 games with 16 starts in his two years. Last season, he tallied five caused turnovers and 19 ground balls, recording a season-high two caused turnovers with a ground ball at Ohio State.
"I am confident that they will continue to motivate and inspire their teammates as well as hold them to the high standard we set for ourselves this year," said Hayes. "In addition to these three captains, we will have one honorary game day captain each week to join Aidan, Kyle, and Chase at the coin toss. This game day captain will be selected by the coaching staff and awarded to the player that showed the best leadership, work ethic, and commitment to his team throughout the week."
The Titans are set to open the season in two weeks as they visit Ohio State on Feb. 4.
