D
ETROIT (1-25-25) - Hitting her first jumper of the game, fifth-year senior Aaliyah McQueen reached the 1000 career points milestone, finishing the game with 17 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Graduate student Emaia O'Brien led the way with a game-high 19 points with three assists and three steals. However, it was not enough, as the Titans dropped a 77-65 decision to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall.

Freshman Kailey Starks was the third player in double figures with 13 points shooting a career-best 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Sophomore Makayla Jackson chipped in with seven points going 5-for-6 from the free throw line while senior Katie Burton and freshman Anna Lassan both made their first career start for the Titans (12-7, 6-5 HL) scoring four and two points respectively.

The offense came out on fire as Detroit Mercy shot 12-for-19 (63.2%) in the first quarter to lead 25-16. Throughout the game, the foul discrepancy doomed the Titans as they only shot 5-for-8, with Robert Morris (8-12, 4-7 HL) going 24-for-27 (88.9%), which proved to be the difference. The Colonials also held a 42-26 advantage on the glass.

RMU opened up the second quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 28-25 before O'Brien hit a layup, ending the spurt. McQueen then hit a 3-pointer, got a steal, and hit a jumper, followed by another jumper from O'Brien giving the Titans a slim 37-35 lead at the break.

The Colonials took the lead to open the third quarter at 43-41 before the Titans ripped off a 9-0 run to move back ahead by seven points at 50-43. However, the Colonials responded with a 12-0 run of their own to close out the frame, leading by five points 55-50 heading into the fourth.

During a point in the fourth quarter, the Titans went scoreless over a four-minute span to trail by seven points, 63-56, with 3:26 to go. McQueen made two jumpers, followed by a steal and layup by O'Brien, trimming the deficit to eight points at 70-62 with 1:52 remaining. However, the Titans were only able to get two more free throws and couldn't connect from the field, while RMU closed the game on a 7-2 run for their second consecutive league road win.

Detroit Mercy hits the road for a game at Northern Kentucky on Wed, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
