Makayla Jackson had a solid all-around game, matching a career-best five steals while dishing a career-high six assists along with five points.
Detroit Mercy (10-3, 4-1 HL) opened the game on a 12-5 run for a 17-12 first-quarter lead. However, Cleveland State (13-3, 5-1 HL) flipped the script in the second quarter,
opening on a 9-0 run to take their first lead at 21-17. CSU's run continued as they outscored UDM 26-10 to take an 11-point lead, 38-27, at the break.
UDM made a move and seemed to figure out CSU's zone, opening the third quarter on an 8-3 spurt. UDM increased the run to 15-8, outscoring CSU 20-15 overall, cutting the deficit to six points, 53-47, at the end of the frame.
Jackson connected on a layup to open the fourth quarter, pulling the Titans within four points at 53-49. The Vikings responded with a 10-4 run of their own, increasing the lead to 10 points, 63-53. From there, UDM battled but was unable to recover and cut into the deficit.
Detroit Mercy will look to bounce back as they travel to Wright State on Wed., Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+
