DETROIT (10-29-25) - Junior
Leila Lanier picked the perfect time for her second goal of the season as she connected on a header off a corner kick feed from senior
Abbey Lodato in the 83rd minute, lifting Detroit Mercy to a 2-2 draw against arch-rival Oakland in Metro Series action on Wednesday night at Titan Field. Senior
Soraya Puerto-Khalil also closed out her stellar career, connecting on a strike off the first career assist from freshman
Kiely Robinson.
Detroit Mercy (2-13-3, 0-7-3 HL) wraps up the 2025 season unbeaten over the last three matches against the Golden Grizzlies (3-7-8, 2-2-6 HL).
UDM had four corner kick opportunities during the first six minutes of the match, but could not get on the board before Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
The Titans were finally able to cash in off a corner kick set piece in the 37th minute, as sophomore
Kyleen Bradow sent in a cross into the box. The ball was deflected and then punched out by OU goalkeeper Maryn Weiger right to Robinson, who passed it outside the box to Puerto-Khalil, where she fired a long-range missile one-timer from 15 yards out into the upper left 90 for the equalizer.
Just 1:52 into the second half, the Golden Grizzlies scored off a free kick to take a 2-1 lead.
UDM almost had the equalizer off another corner kick as graduate student
Ashley Bates's header off the feed hit the crossbar in the 58th minute.
However, the Titans were not to be denied as Lodato sent in a pinpoint corner kick cross from the right side into the box, where Lanier jumped above two defenders, connecting on a header past Weiger, pulling UDM even at 2-2.
