Detroit Mercy Edged by Mercer at Tulane Holiday Tournament

Edwards posts first career double-double in a Titan uniform scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds

NEW ORLEANS (12-20-25) - Graduate student Jasmine Edwards posted her first career double-double in a Titan uniform scoring 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting with 10 rebounds, while graduate student Aaliyah McQueen also had 13 points with eight boards, five assists, three steals and a block as Detroit Mercy came up short to Mercer, 64-55, at the Tulane Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

Senior Myonna Hooper was the third player to reach double figures with 11 points for Detroit Mercy (3-7). Sophomores Addisen Mastriano and Maya Anderson chipped in with nine and seven points, respectively.

The Titans dished out a season-high 14 assists on 21 made field goals while going 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the free throw line.

After trailing 38-27 at halftime, McQueen drained a 3-pointer as UDM opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run to pull within three points, 40-34, by the first media timeout at 7:01. Both teams' defenses stepped up as neither team scored from the field over the next two minutes. The Titans went on to outscore the Bears (8-5) 14-9 overall in the frame to trail by six points, 47-41, going into the fourth quarter.

UDM added another 7-3 run off five points from Mastriano and a layup from McQueen to inch even closer at 50-48 with 7:09 to go in the fourth. Both teams traded baskets back and forth over the next five minutes, with McQueen draining a 3-ball, keeping the deficit at three points, 56-53, with 2:46 left.

However, that would be the UDM's last field goal over a two-minute span, while Mercer scored the next four points before Edwards' layup with 40 seconds left pulled the Titans within five points, 60-55. UDM was forced to foul to extend the game, and Mercer made their final six free throws to hold off the Titans down the stretch.

In the first half, UDM trailed 9-7 by the first media timeout of the first quarter. Tulane then ended the frame on a 14-7 run to lead 23-14. The Bears held a slim 15-13 scoring margin in the second quarter to take a 38-27 lead at the break.

Detroit Mercy concludes the Tulane Holiday Classic against Delaware State on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Noon ET
