Lovejoy Nets 8th 20-Point Game Of Season As UDM Falls To IU Indy

DETROIT (2/19/2025) -- Junior Orlando Lovejoy tallied a team-high 22 points, but a hot-shooting IU Indy team had the Titans playing catch-up all game long as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell 81-70 on Wednesday night at Calihan Hall.

Lovejoy also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with four assists and a steal. Freshman TJ Nadeau scored 16 points with three boards and freshman Nate Johnson had 13 points and five caroms.

The Titans (8-20, 4-13 HL) had just tied the game at 34-34 to start the second half after Nadeau nailed a 3-pointer, but IU Indy (9-19, 5-12 HL) went on an 18-3 run after that. Junior Legend Geeter ended the run with a layup, but the Jaguars scored another five in a row to open their biggest lead of the game at 57-39 with 13:28 remaining.

UDM chipped away and got the deficit to under 10 at 62-53 as Johnson had a bucket and was fouled, converting on the free throw with 8:17 left.

Four minutes later, Johnson had two more free throws, and a Nadeau 3-pointer followed, making it a 70-62 game with 4:11 on the clock. Two defensive stands by the Titans got them the ball back, and Lovejoy had an offensive rebound and putback to cut it t0 70-64 with just 3:01 to go.

With just over a minute left, Nadeau hit another three and the Titans were down by just five, 76-71, but IU Indy held off that final charge.

Senior Mak Manciel finished with seven points, two assists, a rebound and a steal. Freshman Ryan Kalambay had two points, five rebounds and a block and graduate senior Emmanuel Kuac and Geeter each had four points and four boards.

Detroit Mercy shot 41.5% and was 12-of-16 at the free-throw line, committing just 10 turnovers. UDM outrebounded the Jaguars, 39-34, but saw IU Indy connect on 48.1% from the field with 11 triples.

In the first half, the Titans were down 11-4 but made a run as a bucket by Lovejoy, and a three-point play by Nadeau knotted it at 18-18. Back-to-back baskets by Johnson and Lovejoy also squared the contest at 26-26, and a three by Manciel tied it at 31-31, but IU Indy went into the break up 34-31.

The Titans will now prepare for its final home game of the season as the red, white and blue host first-place Cleveland State on Friday.
