@UDMLAX Heads To Bellarmine On Saturday

Senior Eoghan Mullett and the Titans will look for their second-straight win at Bellarmine.
DETROIT (2/19/2025) -- After a week off, the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will get back on the road as the Titans travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to meet Bellarmine on Saturday.

Game time is set for Noon and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Detroit Mercy is 0-2 on the season, with setbacks at Ohio State and at Marquette.

Three Titans top the squad with two goals in senior Caden Loken, redshirt freshman Marcus Thundercloud and freshman Zach Gleason. Junior Kyle Grant leads the team with seven caused turnovers, while senior Ryan Richters has made 29 saves in the two contests.

Bellarmine is 2-3 on the year and is coming off a 16-10 loss at Cleveland State.

BORN AND RAISED IN MICHIGAN
  • While the Titans recruit nationally - witnessed by 14 states plus Canada on their 46-man roster - there is no arguing that Detroit Mercy loves to keep players in its home state, as 25 of its 46 players hail from the Great Lakes State.
  • Next up is California and Wisconsin with three, Ohio and Illinois with two and one apiece from Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington, along with two from Canada (2).

A NEW HOME IN 2025
  • Detroit Mercy accepted an invitation to join the Northeast Conference (NEC).
  • After a two-year hiatus, NEC commissioner Noreen Morris announced that the NEC reinstated men's lacrosse as the league's 25th championship sport for the 2024-25 academic year.
  • The league will feature four full-time members in Mercyhurst, Le Moyne, LIU and Wagner, along with affiliates Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, Robert Morris and VMI.
  • The Titans were members of the MAAC from 2010-2021 and the Atlantic Sun from 2022-24.

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • Detroit Mercy and Bellarmine have met 15 times as the Knights lead the all-time series, 9-6.
  • UDM is 3-4 on the road in the match-up, taking last year's battle as ASUN rivals 18-10.

I KNOW YOU
  • Detroit Mercy and Bellarmine have played every year - outside of the pandemic-shortened season of 2021 - since the Titans started their program in 2009.
  • This will be the 16th meeting, the most against any opponent in school history, ahead of the 14 versus Marist.
  • Most of the meetings have been as non-conference rivals, but both programs were in the ASUN from 2022-24.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING
  • Three Titans tallied hat tricks and UDM scored a school-record 10-straight goals at one point in an 18-10 road victory.
  • Chase Mahabir had four goals and an assist, a career-high in points for Mahabir, and Aidan Bishop had three goals and a helper, while Sean Donahue netted two markers.
  • Ryan Richters made 18 saves in net, one shy of his season high. Sean Henige registered two caused turnovers and four ground balls, and junior Billy Hart won 9-of-22 faceoffs and picked up four GBs.
  • Bellarmine started the game by scoring the first three goals and led 6-2 after the first.
  • The Titans responded with back-to-back goals by Bishop, helped by two faceoff wins by Hart, to pull within two, 6-4, but Bellarmine scored to make it a 7-4 game at the 12:43 mark.
  • That is when the red, white and blue went on an offensive fury, scoring 10-0 straight to take control of the contest for a 9-7 advantage at the break and a 14-7 lead at the 9:46 mark of the third.
  • Bellarmine was within five at 15-10 with 12:40 remaining, but the Titans ended the game with three straight markers.
  • The Titans were 14-of-16 on clears and held Bellarmine to 0-6 on the extra-man attack.

WEARING THE BIG "C"
  • Seniors Aidan Bishop and Chase Mahabir and junior Kyle Grant received the high honor of leading the Titans.
  • "After careful consideration and evaluation of our group over the last 4-5 months, these three guys have emerged as leaders for our team," said head coach Charlie Hayes '18. "As we head into a new season and new chapter in our program, it was very important that we found leaders that embodied great work ethic, discipline, commitment, and buy-in. These three have embodied these values on a consistent basis. They have shown time and time again that they lead by example through their play, work ethic and support for their teammates."

GLEASON'S OUR MAN
  • Freshman Zach Gleason had himself a fine collegiate debut, finding the back of the net twice at Ohio State.

I WANT THE BALL
  • Junior Kyle Grant started the year with his best collegiate game, tallying a career-high six caused turnovers and seven ground balls in the season opener at Ohio State and added a caused turnover at Marquette.

  • The last Titan to have six caused turnovers in a game was current head coach Charlie Hayes, who had six against Bellarmine in 2018.
  • He was named a Prime Time performer by the NEC and was also named to the USILA Lacrosse Team of the Week.
  • Grant played in all 13 games with 10 starts last season and tallied five caused turnovers and 19 ground balls.

GUARDING THE NET

  • Last season, he tallied double-digit saves in all 13 games, posting 187 total saves, tied for 17th in the country, and was second in the school record book, just 15 shy of the single-season mark.
