Titans To Make First Ever Visit To Long Island

The Titans are heading back to New York.

DETROIT (3/19/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will head out to the island for the first time in school history as the Titans travel to LIU on Saturday.

Game time is set for 2:00 p.m., at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.

The Titans have made the trip to New York several times in their history, but never to Long Island, where UDM has recruited some of its best players in school history.

Detroit Mercy is 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Northeast Conference after dropping its league opener to Robert Morris Last week.

Heading into the weekend, UDM ranks second in the NEC and 21st in the nation with 9.20 caused turnovers per contest, led by junior Kyle Grant, who tops the league and is 11th in DI at 2.20 per game. Senior Ryan Richters is also among the top 20 in the nation, ranking 15th with 13.00 saves per game.

LIU is 6-1 on the season and is riding a six-game winning streak after the Sharks downed Mercyhurst, 15-12, last weekend.

Following the game, the Titans return home to face Le Moyne next Saturday.

ALL-TIME SERIES

This is the first career meeting between the two schools.

GUARDING THE NET

Senior Ryan Richters started the year the way he ended last season, making double-digit saves, as he stopped 16 shots with three ground balls and a caused turnover at Ohio State.
He had since followed that up with 13 saves, three GBs, and a takeaway at Marquette, 13 saves with a career-high three caused turnovers at Bellarmine, 10 saves, allowing a career-low five goals, at Hampton and 13 saves last week versus Robert Morris.
Richters is currently 15th in the nation with 13.00 saves per game.
He is fifth in school history with 252 saves and has recorded double-digit stops in all 18 Titan games he has played in.
Last season, he tallied double-digit saves in all 13 games, posting 187 total saves, tied for 17th in the country, and was second in the school record book, just 15 shy of the single-season mark.
His 14.38 saves per game led the Atlantic Sun and was third in Division I.
He registered a season-high 19 saves with a season-best six GB's against Mercer and 19 saves with five ground balls at Utah. He also made 18 saves in a big road win at Bellarmine and had back-to-back games allowing less than 10 goals and as he made 16 stops in a 12-8 road win at Lindenwood and allowed a season-low seven goals with 12 saves in a 12-7 triumph over Queens.
Prior to his arrival in the Motor City, he played for Team Latvia at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships and was nominated to the All-World Team.
Sophomore Cooper St. Clair made his collegiate debut at Bellarmine, playing the final 2:39, while sophomore Christian Tucker made his collegiate debut against Robert Morris and made two stops in eight minutes.

GLEASON'S OUR MAN

Freshman Zach Gleason had a fine collegiate debut, finding the back of the net twice at Ohio State.
He had a team-high five shots, with four on net, all in front of friends and family as he was an All-American, All-Region, and the Midfielder of the Year as a senior at Loveland in Ohio.
He had another multi-goal effort with a pair of markers at Hampton.

I WANT THE BALL

Junior Kyle Grant started the year with his best collegiate game, tallying a career-high six caused turnovers and seven ground balls in the season opener at Ohio State.
The six caused turnovers are tied for second in school history, behind the seven Jamie Hebden had against VMI in 2013.
The last Titan to have six caused turnovers in a game was current head coach Charlie Hayes, who had six against Bellarmine in 2018.
He was named a Prime Time performer by the NEC and was also named to the USILA Lacrosse Team of the Week.
Grant just had a caused turnover and a team-high four ground balls. He had another strong game with two caused turnovers and five ground balls at Hampton and a caused turnover at Marquette and at Bellarmine.
Grant played in all 13 games with 10 starts last season and tallied five caused turnovers and 19 ground balls, but this year, he already has 11 takeaways and 18 ground balls.
He currently tops the league and is 11th in DI at 2.20 caused turnovers per game and sixth in the NEC with 3.6 GB's per game.

KING ME

Senior Aidan Bishop picked up an assist in the season opener at Ohio State, but has now tallied five goals in the last three games, coming up with a pair at Bellarmine and at Hampton and a marker at home against Robert Morris.
He was the leading returning scorer after recording a career-high 26 points, second with a career-best 21 goals, and picking up a career-high 27 ground balls, third on the team, last season.
He scored a goal in 10 games, with multi-goal outings in eight and three hat tricks.
He posted two goals and a career-high five ground balls with a caused turnover at Ohio State. Bishop tied his career-high with three goals at Robert Morris and had another career-tying three goals and a career-high five points with four GB's at Lindenwood. He also found the back of the net three times at Bellarmine.
In his career, he has now played in 42 games with 39 starts and has 44 goals, 12 assists, 62 GBs, and 12 caused turnovers.

MR. MARSHALL TO YOU

Senior Will Marshall has had a good start to the season, with a takeaway and three ground balls at Ohio State. He then had two more CT's and a GB at Marquette and a caused turnover and career-high four ground balls at Bellarmine.
Last year, he had two caused turnovers and three ground balls at #16/14 Rutgers, recorded a goal, caused turnover and ground ball at Utah, and posted a career-high three caused turnovers with three GB's and a goal against Queens
He has played in 40 career games and has four goals, 15 caused turnovers and 41 ground balls.

HARD WORK PAYS OFF

Senior Caden Loken did not see any action in his first three seasons, but after making his collegiate debut at Ohio State, he scored his first two goals at Marquette.
Loken's older brother, Kyle, was a five-year letterwinner from 2020-24 and a three-time captain as a SSDM.

SHOWING SOME LOVE AT THE FACEOFFS

Senior Billy Hart is off to a slow start like last season, but is fourth in school history with 190 faceoff wins and ninth at winning 41.1%.
Last season, he led the team with a career-best 44 ground balls and 77 faceoff wins, as his 3.67 ground balls per game was good for sixth in the Atlantic Sun.
He was 77-of-178 at faceoffs for a career-high .433 win percentage, but after starting the year 22-of-74 (.297) in his first seven games, but ended the season 55-of-104 (.528) in his last five games.
He won 14-of-22 faceoffs with seven ground balls at Lindenwood and ended the year with one of the best days in school history, going a career-best 17-of-24, tied for the 10th most wins in school history, with a career-high nine ground balls against Cleveland State.

HAVE YOURSELF A DAY

Freshman Canton Lanham came into the game at Hampton just 10-of-35 in faceoffs in the first three games, but he was a force against the Pirates, going 12-of-18 with four GB's.
The 12 wins are the most by a Titan freshman since Alex Jarzembowski was 14-of-21 at Robert Morris in 2017

CHASING YOU DOWN

Senior Chase Mahabir recorded his first points of the season with two assists at Bellarmine and tallied his fourth career hat trick with three goals and an assist at Hampton.
Last week against Robert Morris, he led the offense with a goal and an assist.
He had a breakout season last year as he was fourth on the team with 21 points and third with 17 goals, all career highs, scoring a goal in nine games, and recording a point in 10.
He started a five-game scoring streak with a goal against VMI, at #16/14 Rutgers and at Ohio State and posted his first career hat trick with three goals against Mercer.
Mahabir netted a career-best four goals with a caused turnover at Robert Morris and recorded a career-high five points on a career-tying four goals at Bellarmine.

LEAVE IT UP TO THE CREATOR

Sophomore Julian Greendeer played in 11 games as a rookie, recording an assist at Marquette, but at Hampton, he tallied his first-ever goal in the win and added a helper last week against Robert Morris.

THICK SKIN

Senior Harold Skinner moved into the starting line-up at Hampton and finished with a goal, an assist, a caused turnover, and two ground balls. He came back last week with a goal against Robert Morris.
He scored his first goal of the year at Bellarmine and had two GB's in the opener at Ohio State.
Skinner has battled some injuries, limiting him to 19 games, where he has six goals and two assists.

PARKING IT HERE

Freshman Andrew Parker did not play in the season opener at Ohio State, but on his first-ever shot at Marquette, he beat the keeper for his first collegiate goal.
He also added a caused turnover and ground ball.
At Bellarmine, he had a takeaway and two ground balls and found the back of the net with three GB's at Hampton and a goal and two ground balls against Robert Morris.

THAT'S RIGHT I SAID OWEN

Junior Eoghan Mullett - pronounced Owen - had his third straight game with a caused turnover against Robert Morris, while also picking up three ground balls.
He had a takeaway and two GB's at Hampton and also a caused turnover at Bellarmine.
Mullett was third on the team with eight caused turnovers and seventh with 21 ground balls last season.
He scored his first collegiate goal at #16/14 Rutgers, where he also had three ground balls and a caused turnover and had a takeaway and three GB's at Ohio State. He also posted a career-best three caused turnovers with a ground ball against Mercer.
In his first year with the team after transferring from Bryant, Mullett led the team with 36 ground balls and tied for the team lead with 13 caused turnovers, ranking 10th in the ASUN with 3.0 ground balls per game.

ANOTHER DONAHUE IN THE MIX

Sophomore Sean Donahue scored a goal in the season opener at Ohio State and had two points on a goal and an assist at Hampton.
He earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team last season after seeing action in all 13 games with 11 starts and was fifth on the team with 17 points and tied for fourth with 15 goals. He also picked up 17 ground balls and scored a goal in nine games, including hat tricks in two contests.
He posted a season-high four points on three goals and an assist, along with two ground balls, at Ohio State and tallied three goals at Robert Morris.
His sister played on the women's lacrosse team for four years and just graduated in 2024.

OUR GREEN WALL

Freshman Ian Greenwell saw action in the season opener at Ohio State, picking up three ground balls, and has now started the last four games.
He had two caused turnovers and two ground balls at Hampton, and a takeaway and three GB's against RMU.

ROLLING 6'S

Graduate senior Ally Don Jean-Francois played in just 12 games coming into the season, but has played in all four games with two starts and scored his first collegiate goal at Marquette.

I WILL TAKE A HENIGE

Senior Sean Henige was back in the stat sheet at Marquette as he posted a caused turnover and three ground balls and had two GB's and two takeaways at Bellarmine.
Last season, he appeared in all 13 games with 12 starts last year, leading the team with 16 caused turnovers and finishing fourth with 26 ground balls.
Overall, he was seventh in the ASUN with 1.23 caused turnovers per game.
He tallied three caused turnovers and a career-high seven ground balls against VMI and tied his career-high with three takeaways and two ground balls at Ohio State. Henige had another three caused turnovers with a ground ball and his first collegiate goal at Utah.
In his three years, he has started 28 of the team's 30 games and has 29 caused turnovers and 51 ground balls.
