Thundercloud Named NEC Rookie Of The Year, Seven Titans Earn All-NEC Honors

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (4/30/2025)  -- Redshirt freshman Marcus Thundercloud took home a major award, and senior Chase Mahabir and junior Kyle Grant received first-team honors as the Northeast Conference announced its regular season award winners on Wednesday, the event of the postseason.

Mahabir was named NEC First Team at midfield, while Grant took the honor on defense.

Thundercloud was named to the NEC Second Team at attack, where junior teammate Jackson Ewald joined him at defensive midfield.

Thundercloud also headlined four Titans on the NEC All-Rookie Team, along with Ian Greenwell, Canton Lanham, and Andrew Parker.

  • Named NEC Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-NEC, NEC All-Rookie Team
  • The first freshman to earn a Rookie of the Year accolade since Mark Anstead won the MAAC accolade in 2015
  • Was named the NEC Rookie of the Week four times this season
  • Despite missing three games with a hand injury, he was second on the team with 21 goals and 23 points and ranks fourth in the NEC with 2.63 goals per game
  • Scored 19 of his 21 goals in conference action, leading his peers at 3.17 per game in NEC play
  • Found the back of the net at least twice in seven of his games games, with four hat tricks
  • Had four goals against Le Moyne and Mercyhurst
  • Tallied a season-high five points on four goals and an assist at Cleveland State

  • Named First Team All-NEC
  • Second-straight season the Titans have had a first-team midfielder as Luke Majick was tabbed by the ASUN last season
  • Was named the NEC Player of the Week three times
  • Leads the team with 23 goals, 12 assists, and 35 points
  • Ranks fifth in the NEC with 2.09 goals per game and sixth at 3.18 points per game
  • In league play, his 20 goals and 2.86 goals are tied for the most, while his 29 points and 4.14 points per game are third
  • Posted five hat tricks on the season, with four in NEC action, including the last three games
  • Tallied a career-high eight points on four goals and a career-best four assists at Cleveland State, tied for the third most in school history
  • Found the back of the net five times, including a man-down goal, the last three goals, and the eventual game-winner with 47 seconds left against Mercyhurst
  • Scored a career-high six goals - tied for the second most in school history -  with an assist against Wagner
  • Notched three goals and an assist at LIU and at Hampton

Kyle Grant * D * Grand Rapids, Mich. * East Grand Rapids
  • Named First Team All-NEC
  • Leads the team with 21 caused turnovers and is second 34 ground balls, both career-highs
  • Currently leads the NEC and 10th in the nation at 1.91 caused turnovers per game and ninth in the NEC and 93rd in DI with 3.09 GB's per game
  • Has posted a caused turnover in eight games on the season and multi-caused turnovers in six outings 
  • Started the year tallying a career-high six caused turnovers and seven ground balls in the season opener at Ohio State, tied for second in school history
  • Ended with four caused turnovers and five ground balls at VMI, with three of those takeaways in the second half
  • Had three caused turnovers and three GB's against Wagner
  • Posted a pair of takeaways and four ground balls versus Robert Morris and Le Moyne
  • Scored his first goal on his first collegiate shot against Mercyhurst

Jackson Ewald * DM * Wixom, Mich. * Detroit Catholic Central
  • Named Second Team All-NEC
  • The first short stick defensive midfielder named All-League since head coach Charlie Hayes '18 was All-MAAC First Team in 2018
  • Has posted a career-high four caused turnovers and 12 ground balls this season
  • Started the year with a caused turnover and two ground balls at Ohio State
  • Registered a takeaway and ground ball at Marquette
  • Picked up a pair of ground balls against Mercyhurst
  • Had a caused turnover and two ground balls at Cleveland State

Ian Greenwell * D * Wixom, Mich. * Detroit Catholic Central
  • Named to NEC All-Rookie Team
  • Second on the team with 12 caused turnovers and fourth with 29 ground balls
  • Ranks sixth in the NEC with 1.09 caused turnovers and 12th with 2.64 ground balls per game
  • Has started 10 of the 11 games as a rookie and has recorded a ground ball in 10 and a caused turnover in eight of them.
  • Posted three caused turnovers and six ground balls at VMI
  • Recorded two takeaways and four GB's against Wagner
  • Registered a caused turnover and four ground balls at Cleveland State
  • In his collegiate debut at Ohio State, he picked up three ground balls

Canton Lanham * FO * Louisville, Ky. * Trinity
  • Named to NEC All-Rookie Team
  • The Titans' top face-off specialist as his 95 wins are the sixth most in school history, and also leads the team with 36 ground balls
  • Ranks third in the NEC, winning 51.1%, and seventh at 3.27 GB's per game.
  • Started the year 10-of-35 but has won 85-of-151 (56.2%) in the last eight games
  • Won a season-best 19-of-27 with a season-high 11 ground balls against Mercyhurst - the most wins and GB's by a freshman in school history and tied for the sixth most victories in the record book, while the 11 ground balls are tied for the third most by a Titan
  • Was 15-of-24 with five ground balls against Wagner, securing 10-of-15 in the second half and 5-of-6 in the final period
  • Took 12-of-20 with five GB's at LIU and at VMI

Andrew Parker * M * Lake Orion, Mich. * Lake Orion
  • Named to NEC All-Rookie Team
  • Has scored a goal in seven of his 10 games and is fourth on the team with 16 points and 10 goals and tied for second with six assists
  • Tallied a season-high five points on two goals and three assists at Cleveland State
  • Posted his first career hat trick with three goals and an assist versus Wagner
  • Had a goal and two ground balls against Robert Morris and another marker against Le Moyne and at VMI
  • Scored a goal on his first collegiate shot at Marquette
