DETROIT (8/7/2025) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse alums Greg Marzec '17 and Ryan Richters '25 and current junior Lucas Goeller represented the Titans at this year's 2025 European Men's Lacrosse Championship.
The event was held from July 9-19 across the seas in Wrocław, Poland.
The trio is no stranger to international competitions, having all competed before wearing their ancestors' colors.
Marczec, who played in the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships with Team Poland and helped the squad win the European Lacrosse Challenge, returned to the team, which went 2-2 in pool play. As a faceoff specialist, he won 56 of his 85 battles (67.0%), tied for the fourth-best winning percentage, and scored a goal.
Richters was the goalie for Latvia - the same as he was at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships, where he was nominated to the All-World Team - and guided the country to a 3-1 mark in pool play. He made 53 saves and had a 66.0% save percentage, the second-best mark among the net minders.
Goeller suited up for Team France, with whom he played at the 2023 event, and saw the country finish 3-1 in pool play. The midfielder notched nine points on six goals and three assists.
In bracket play, Goeller and Team France fell to England, while Israel downed Latvia and Richters in the quarterfinals. Those two would hook up in an all-important fifth-place game and a chance to qualify for a berth in the 2027 World Lacrosse Men's Championship as Latvia earned the spot with an 11-5 win over France.
