DETROIT (10-22-26) - Freshman
Gabriella Gojcaj scored her first career goal as Detroit Mercy's rally came up short with a 2-1 setback to Northern Kentucky on Thursday afternoon at Titan Field. Senior
Eva Hill made a season second-best six saves in goal.
NKU (8-5-3, 4-3-2 HL) took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game and added another tally in the 12th minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Gojcaj had a chance to put Detroit Mercy (4-10-2, 2-6-1 HL) on the board on a breakaway in the 41st minute, but her shot was saved by the NKU goalkeeper at point-blank range as the Titans still trailed by two goals at the break.
UMD pressed the attack in the second half. After scoring her first career goal last game, freshman
Adey Avey almost recorded her second goal with a shot that beat the goalie clean but rang off the crossbar in the 61st minute.
Just five minutes later, in the 66th minute, Gojcaj would not be denied as she put in a loose ball in the box off a free kick, pulling the Titans within a goal at 2-1.
Detroit Mercy continued to press the rest of the way but could not get the equalizer.
Detroit Mercy returns to Titan Field for the home finale against Wright State on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
