Detroit Mercy Travels to the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships Hosted by Denison

The Titans will compete against Cleveland State, Denison, Lawrence, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Wayne State on Sat., Feb.22, and Sun., Feb. 23

DETROIT (2-20-25) – The Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing teams travel to Grandville, Ohio, for the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Championships hosted by Denison on Saturday, Feb. 21, and Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Mitchell Athletic Center. The Titans will compete against Cleveland State, Denison, Lawrence, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Wayne State.

Danosi Open Highlights: (Feb. 6, 2026)
• Junior Sophia Miller (Sabre) placed third with seven wins and also competed in the epee competition.
Shana Dupin (Foil) finished fourth with seven wins.
• Sophomore Phillip Hunter pulled double duty, going 4-4 in the foil competition and 2-4 in the epee division.
Diego Grijalva-Barrera added two wins in the epee division.
• Junior Sydney Upton (foil) went 3-4.
 
Schiller Duals Highlights (Jan. 31 – Feb. 1, 2026):
• Junior Arturo Rangel (Epee) led the men's team with an 18-9 record.
• Sophomore Sophia Baez (Sabre) paced the women's team with 20 wins.
• The women's team posted wins over Wheaton (23-4) and Incarnate Word (14-13).
• Senior Shana Dupin (Foil) and Lusciana Ruiz (Epee) were second on the women's squad with15 wins each
• Junior Sophia Miller (Sabre) ranked third with 12 wins.
• Junior Nathan Mysiorek (Sabre) went 4-5 with a 2-1 mark vs Lawrence and Ohio State.
• The women's Sabre team posted six wins vs Lawrence, FDU, Air Force, Wheaton, Incarnate Word, and Wayne State
 
DeCicco Duals Highlights (Jan. 24-25, 2026):
• Senior Shana Dupin (Foil) led all Detroit Mercy fencers with nine wins.
• Sophomore Sophia Baez posted eight wins on the women's team.
• Juniors Arturo Rangel (Epee) and Nathan Mysiorek (Sabre) also recorded eight wins each on the men's side.
• Dupin went a perfect 3-0 against Lawrence and Florida.
• Junior Sophia Miller (2-1) and Baez (3-0) combined for a 5-1 mark to earn a 5-4 weapon win over Lawrence in the Sabre competition.
• Miller (3-0) and Baez (3-0), along with freshman Elizabeth Styf (1-2), earned a 7-2 weapon win over Florida.
• Dupin (3-0) and junior Sydney Upton (2-1) combined for a 5-1 mark to earn a 5-4 weapon win over Lawrence in the Foil competition.
• The women's team came up short against Florida by just one point (14-13).
• Freshman Darick Galcia (Foil) ranked second for the men, with seven wins, going 3-0 vs Florida.
 
Drew Invitational Highlights (Nov. 1-2, 2025):
• Dupin (Foil) had quite the debut for the Detroit Mercy women's fencing, leading the way with 17 bout wins as the top individual out of 147 total fencers.
• Freshman Darick Galcia (Foil) also made an impressive debut, finishing 34th out of 151 fencers with 10 wins.
• Junior Arturo Rangel (epee) finished 35th with 10 wins.
• The women's team finished eighth, coming close to defeating Drew and Haverford College, losing 14-13 both times.
• The men's team placed 11th.
• Sophomore Lusciana Ruiz (Epee) placed 21st with 11 wins.
• Junior Sydney Upton (Foil) finished 22nd with 11 wins.
• Sophomore Sophia Baez (Sabre) placed 28th with 10 wins.
• Junior Sophia Miller (Sabre) finished 67th with six wins.
• Junior Nathan Mysiorek (Sabre) placed 41st with nine wins.
• Sophomore Phillip Hunter (Foil) finished 95th with four wins.
• Freshman Bennett Holloway (Epee) secured his first career win.
• Senior Julissa Labra-Avila (Epee) and Adriana Molina-Marroquín had a win each.
