Trinity Fessler and sophomore
Allison Fluker each hit 2-for-4 with an RBI as Detroit Mercy had an 11-0 setback against Valparaiso, followed by a hard-fought 6-4 rematch loss to host DePaul during the second day of action at the DePaul Dome Tournament held at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
Sophomore
Abby Klaft also went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks, while freshmen
Jenna Higgins and
Savannah Schultz hit 1-for-3 and 1-for-4, respectively. Junior
Jada Davis also accounted for one of Detroit Mercy's (1-3) eight total hits against DePaul (3-0).
Sophomore
Erin Flynn picked up her first loss of the season, going 5.1 innings with three strikeouts, allowing five earned runs off six hits.
Valpo Recap:
• After posting a run in the first inning, Valpo broke the game open with nine runs off five hits in the second inning.
• After Valpo moved ahead 11-0, sophomore
Mia Hubbell recorded UDM's lone hit of the game in the fourth inning.
DePaul Recap:
• The Titans took a 2-0 lead in the first off a bases-loaded walk from Klaft and a fielder's choice RBI from sophomore
Natalie Babcock. DePaul tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom half.
• UDM moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the third inning on an RBI single from Fluker to score Davis. The Blue Demons once again tied the game in the bottom half on a groundout.
• DePaul broke the 3-3 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead
• In the sixth inning, Fessler added an RBI single, scoring Ketola, cutting DePaul's lead to 6-4.
• Klaft and Hallman each drew walks in the top of the seventh inning, but both were left stranded.
The Titans conclude tournament play on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8, against Western Illinois at 3 am ET.
