Three Titans To Compete In U-20 Championships This Week

Abigail Mullings (L), Colin Murray (C), and Thomas Daniel Tent (R) will be competing at U-20 Championships this week.
DETROIT (6/15/2026) -- It might be the offseason for some, but for three Titans, the sport is year-round as the University of Detroit Mercy track and field program will have three student-athletes compete in U-20 championships this week across the United States and Canada.

The week serves as selection events for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships.

Freshman Colin Murray will be at the US U-20's in Oregon, while freshman Abigail Mullings and incoming freshman Thomas Daniel Tent will be in Ottawa for the Canadian U-20 Championships.

Murray will run in the 5,000 meters on Thursday night, June 18, at the University of Oregon. As a rookie this past year, he was Second Team All-Horizon League in cross country, where he set school records in the 8k and 10k, and then broke five freshman records in track. He scored in both the indoor and outdoor Horizon League Championship 5,000m, with his best time in the event 14:20.28 for second in school history at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic,

He is the 10th Titan to compete in the event and the first since Eli Major ran in the 100m in 2022. He is also the first to run in the 5,000m and the second distance runner following Ben Kendell's 10,000m effort in 2015.

In Canada, with Border City Athletics, Trent will run in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries on Friday, June 19, with the championship set for Saturday. The brand new Titan won the OFSAA 400mH in 53.29 earlier this month and was runner-up at the U-20 last year in 52.85.

Representing the Flying Angels Academy, Mullings will be in the triple jump on Saturday. As a rookie, she scored in the HL indoor triple jump, placing fourth, and in the outdoor triple jump, taking seventh, while posting the fourth-best mark in school history at 11.62m.

The pair is the 10th and 11th Titan to compete in the Canadian U-20's. Tent is the first male since Khalil Parris competed in the 400mH and the 400m in 2014, while Mullings is the first female since Zeinab Baydoun was in the 2000m steeplechase in 2001
