DETROIT (8/14/2026) -- The Titans will have another alum looking to play in a world championship as former University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse defenseman Masen Powless '24 will look to help the Haudenosaunee Nationals to a title at the 2026 Pan-American Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The championship will take place August 16–23 in Kingston, Jamaica.  

Powless transferred to UDM and played two seasons in 2023 and 2024. He was a two-time member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll as he saw action in three games, with one start. 

Nine teams will be competing at the event, with five advancing to the 2027 World Lacrosse Men's Championship in Japan. The Haudenosaunee Nationals - currently ranked No. 3 in the world - will compete in Pool A alongside Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

The men are also preparing for next month's Pan-American Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Oshawa, Canada, serving as the crucial first leg of the Olympic qualifying pathway. 

The Haudenosaunee Nationals are the official international lacrosse program of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, representing the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, and Tuscarora Nations. The Haudenosaunee are renowned as the originators of lacrosse. For thousands of years, the Medicine Game — or the Creator's Game as it's also known — has been a foundation of Haudenosaunee culture, gifted to the world and passed down through generations. Beyond competing at the highest level, the Nationals continue to advocate for the inclusion and recognition of Indigenous nations on lacrosse's global stage.
