Biography

2013-14: Second Team All-Horizon League and was the Team MVP… Also honored by the Horizon League with the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award, named after the former Wright State coach who exemplified the values of the league and encouraged student-athletes to compete with sportsmanship, the first Titan to earn that accolade… Was third on the Titans with seven singles wins and played No. 1 for Detroit in all six of its conference matches, compiling a 3-3 record… Won another seven matches in doubles and was 2-2 in league play… Had thrilling three-set victories at No. 1 over Sebastian Hagn of Youngstown State (4-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Dan Gilbert of Wright State (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) – two other members of the HL Second Team – as well as a dominating straight set win over UIC's Alexander Raa  (6-3, 6-1)… He also teamed with freshman Patryk Koscielski for an 8-4 triumph in doubles against YSU and Green Bay at No. 3… That combination also had an 8-3 win over the No. 3 Ball State duo early in the year… Picked up his first Division I singles win over Duquesne’s Pete Carpenter, 6-5 (6), 6-2…  Topped Southern Illinois’ Southern Illinois Michal Kianicka, 6-5 (5), 6-5 (3)… Named an ITA Scholar Athlete... A member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Prior to Detroit: Will have one year of eligibility left after earning three varsity letters for tennis (but graduated) from Hope College (Holland, Mich.) in May 2013... Was the team MVP as a senior helping the Flying Dutchmen to a MIAA Co-Championship last season.. Posted a 21-4 dual-match record in singles and a 17-9 mark at doubles... Was a three-time member of the All-MIAA First Team and the 2012 winner of the MIAA Stowe Memorial Award which is awarded by MIAA coaches on the basis of outstanding sportsmanship... Ranks third in Hope's history in total wins (104), fourth in singles victories (56-12) and sixth in doubles (48-28).

High School: Was part of a state championship team at East Lansing, the same alma mater as head coach Grant Asher. 

Personal: Son of Bill and Julie Cawood... Has two siblings, Tom and Sam... Enrolled in UDM's MBA program.
