Biography

2008-09: Registered seven victories on the year, including three in singles play in his first season on the collegiate circuit…Competed at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions…Picked up his first win in his first collegiate match downing Wayne State’s Marlon Leone 6-0, 6-1 in the Detroit Titan Fall Invitational…Also earned his first doubles win in that tournament teaming with fellow freshman David Stabley for a 9-7 victory over IPFW’s Hermann Kuschke and Roberto Cabrini at No. 2…He and Stabley went on to post three more doubles victories, including an 8-7 (5) win against conference foe’s Tariq Ismail and Michael Kathary of Youngstown State’s in the Titans 4-3 triumph in their first HL match of the season.

Prior to Detroit:
A tough and competitive freshman, McCathney was a four-year letterwinner in tennis at Stevenson HS under head coach Kathy Ladd…He was named all-conference four times as well as a two-time all-state honorable mention playing No. 1 singles… He was also a two-time All-Observerland and team MVP selection in his last two seasons at Stevenson, winning back-to-back regional championships at the same time.

Son of Denise and Don McCathney....Lists his biggest thrill in sports in winning back-to-back regional championships… Has two brothers, Chris (20) and Marcus (13)…Undecided on major…Born on September 9, 1990.
