The University of Detroit Mercy softball program added Chad Schatz as its new pitching coach, head coach John Conway announced Tuesday.
"I am very excited to add coach Schatz to our staff to help take our program to a higher level," said Conway.
Schatz comes to Detroit with a plethora of coaching experience that includes stays at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Columbia College, Missouri University and the Bulgarian National Softball Team.
Under his assistance, the Miners and Cougars have been mainstays atop the standings of their respective conferences. With Columbia, his squad won four conference championships in five seasons and made multiple appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
"Chad brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at the D-1 level," said Conway. "He has been to the show and knows what it takes to get his pitching staff to the next level."
Schatz also served as an assistant coach to the Missouri University softball program for ten years. With the Tigers, Mizzou won a Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament championship, in addition to appearing in numerous NCAA Tournaments and reaching the College World Series.
Outside of the college ranks, Schatz serves as the head coach of the Bulgarian National Team. Schatz led the team in the European Cup Games in 2013 and 2014 after spending five years as a pitching clinician for other European National Teams.
