University of Detroit Mercy Athletics

Larry Boyles joins the 2011-12 University of Detroit Mercy softball staff for his third year after over 20 years of service as a high school softball coach.

Currently, Boyles coaches U16 softball for the South Lyons Stealth travel team. He also serves as the assistant coach for the freshman football team and is in his second year of coaching junior varsity basketball at South Lyons High School.

From 2000-03 Boyles was an assistant to current UDM head coach Sunny Jones at Novi High School in Novi, MI.

“I’ve known and worked with Larry for 10 years now,” Jones said. “He loves the game and loves being able to share what he knows with kids. He’s going to bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm with him whenever he’s around.”

Boyles will work with the outfielders, assist with the day-to-day operations and planning of practice and “be my utility man,” said Jones. He and his wife Julie have a daughter, Kendyl.
