Kyle Stefan just completed his second season on the staff having joined the Titan women’s golf program in the fall of 2009. Since his arrival, his hard work and enthusiasm have been clearly evident as Detroit claimed the 2010 Horizon League Championship, while the Titans were runner-up in 201.
He is involved in all aspects of practice, travel, tournament preparation and recruiting and played a major role in the Titans winning the 2010 Horizon League Championship.
He serves as tournament director of the Detroit Titans Invitational and the inaugural Sunshine Spring Classic, which was held in Sanford, Florida, in 2010, and is also a voter for the GolfWorld/NGCA Coaches' Poll.
Stefan is a graduate of Wayne State University, where he played golf in 2008-09 and was named to the Coach’s Honor Roll while majoring in finance. He also spent two years on the golf team (2005 and ’06) at Olivet before transferring to WSU.
He helped WSU to the Super Regional Championship and first ever NCAA Finals appearance, where the Warriors finished 13th nationally."
“Kyle is a great asset to our program” UDM head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan said. “He has a great deal of knowledge about playing golf at the college level and I think what he’s able to pass along is of great value to the ladies on our team. He knows a lot about our University and team already, and I he has been very valuable to us in the recruiting department. He works hard to make us get better as a team.”
In addition to playing at the college level a year ago, Stefan – whose sister Alainna was an All-Horizon League golfer and HL medalist at UDM – also served as an assistant boys golf coach at University of Detroit Jesuit, where he spent three seasons on the varsity golf team during his high school days. Stefan helped the Cubs to a regional championship in 2003, and served as team captain as a senior. He qualified for the Michigan Junior Amateur Championship on three occasions.
As a varsity assistant coach at U of D Jesuit, Stefan helped the Cubs qualify for the state finals three times, finishing eighth in 2009 - the schools' best finish in the modern area. The school also won the 2008 Catholic League Central Division and 2008 Regional, while all three teams were named Academic All-State during his tenure.
Outside of Detroit, he is the tournament director for the Detroit Golf Club Invitational, the Wayne County Championship and the U of D Jesuit Sunday Shootout.
While at Wayne State, Stefan worked as "editor-in-chief" for The South End, the school’s student newspaper. He also volunteered as a member of the Media Operations group when UDM hosted the 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional and 2009 Final Four.
