HS-Larry Hamilton-2019

Larry Hamilton

A veteran coach in the state of Michigan and a PGA professional, Larry Hamilton was named the new head coach of the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf program in February of 2019 and just finished his third year with the program in 2020-21.

In 2020-21, he guided the Titans to a 317.9 team score average, their best team score since the 2013-14 season and would be the third-best score in school history, but the shortened season did not give them enough rounds to qualify. The team also saw three players post career-best averages, five individual top-10 performances and a pair of runner-up efforts.

In 2019-20, the Titans started to make strides and that showed with their performance at Eastern Michigan as Detroit Mercy posted a 934 team score, the third best 54-hole score in school history until the pandemic ended the spring season.

"Larry brings a wealth of coaching experience in the game to our women's program," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr.. "His passion for coaching and all his prior experience will be a major asset to our student-athletes and we are happy to have him and his family join us here in Titan Territory."

Hamilton brings over 25 years of experience in the game, both in coaching and in the business.

"To have the chance to coach a Division I team has always been a dream of mine and to be able to step into this opportunity at the University of Detroit Mercy is truly ideal," said Hamilton. "From the support of the athletic department to the positive attitudes and skill sets of the student-athletes on this team, I believe we have the foundation to build a winning tradition."
