Terri Anthony-Ryan

Terri Anthony-Ryan, a noted golf professional in the Metro Detroit area for the last two decades, just finished her 13th season as head coach of the Titans in 2017-18. She joined the Detroit Mercy staff in July of 2005 and clearly has the program heading in the right direction as the Titans have won three Horizon League Championships in the last eight years, including back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014.

In the last nine years, the Titans have been one of the favorites to win the league championship with those three titles, while taking runner-up honors twice.

Their last championship quest in 2013-14 was as impressive as they come as the Titans overcame an eight-stroke deficit in the final round of the HL Championship to win its’ second-straight title by seven shots over local rival Oakland. Detroit Mercy then earned its third-ever berth to the NCAA Regional Championships as it headed to the West Regional at Tumble Creek Course at Suncadia Resort in Washington.

For her efforts and the team’s success on the season, she was named Co-Coach of the Year, the second-straight time and her third career Coach of the Year accolade.

The Titan dominance has been evident for some time now as Detroit Mercy matched its program win total in just one year winning nine events in 2012-13, leading her to be named Horizon League Coach of the Year for the second time. The 2013 Titans featured five players who tallied an average in the 70’s on the year heading to the NCAA Central Regional Championships, hosted by Oklahoma at the Jimmie Austin Oklahoma Golf Course.

During 2011-12, she guided Detroit Mercy to second place in the Horizon League Championship for the second-straight season and led eight other top-five finishes on the year. Her team won two events in the Detroit Titans Fall Classic and the Titan Quad Challenge and her players collected five medalist honors, with Lindsey Lammers winning the league event.

In the fall, the Titans won the Detroit Titans Fall Classic with a school record 287 in the final round and a school record 590 for the tournament.

In 2010-11, Detroit Mercy registered seven top-five finishes, including winning the IPFW Spring Classic and taking second at the Dayton Fall Invitational, the Detroit Titans Invitational and the Horizon League Championship. The Titans won their first Horizon League Championship in 2010 as they shot a then school record 300 in round one – also a HL record for lowest 18 - en route to a 943. Alainna Stefan led the way by winning medalist with a 226, tying for the best score by a Horizon League Champion.

During her time at Detroit Mercy, Anthony-Ryan has coached 22 All-Conference selections, 15 All-Horizon League Tournament honorees, 22 Academic All-Americans, three Horizon League Medalist and three HL Player and Newcomers of the Year winners. Her teams have secured 22 tournament titles, while individuals have captured 24 medalist honors.

Her teams have also done the work in the classroom taking home the Team Excellence Awards for having the highest cumulative team GPA at the University in six of the last nine years (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018). In addition to winning the Detroit Mercy Team Excellence Award, the women’s golf team has also been recognized with the Horizon League “Raise Your Sights” award in seven of the last 11 seasons, which recognizes the highest men’s and women’s team GPA's for Horizon League sponsored sports.
