Titan Golfers Take Tenth At Georgetown

Final Results

The Titan men's golfers climbed out of a big hole to record another Top 10 finish Tuesday as they ended up 10th at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.

Detroit was mired in 12th place Monday after a disappointing opening round tally of 306 - the 36-hole day was shorted to 18 after a long frost delay - then moved past defending champion DePaul and a second Big East school, St. John's, on the windswept final day. Gusts blew more than 30 miles per hour Tuesday, making a difficult Members Club at Four Streams layout even more challenging.

Sophomore Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) was Detroit's top finisher individually with a 73-80-153 card. That placed Clarridge in a 27th place tie on the leader board. Freshman Mark Hicks (Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON/Niagara) was right behind Clarridge with a 76-78-154 total for the Titans.

"This really wasn't the finish to the fall season we wanted, especially after we came in fourth at Georgetown last year. Jeff played particularly well the first day and Mark did the second day, but we never got anything really going as a team this time," coach Mark Engel said. "Overall, a lot of good things happened during the fall. We just have to keep working hard this winter, and in the spring, to get where we want to go by the end of April, when the league championship comes around."
