Horizon League Cross Country Championships Results
Sophomore harrier Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) took home All-Horizon League honors for the second-straight season as the Detroit Titans men's cross country team tallied 127 points for a fifth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships, held at the 8k course at the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum Trails in Green Bay.
"Overall, we had a very disappointing race," said head coach Guy Murray. "We might have been a bit too focused on closing better and did not get out like we needed to. The race started slow on a narrow course and we just never caught up."
Liederbach was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team after finishing eighth in 25:38, becoming just the second Titan in school history to receive multiple conference honors in their career.
"Pat ran well and was in the lead pack the whole race," Murray said. "He was the last man standing to break the Butler sweep, but just couldn't hold on. A few more summer miles might have prevented the fade in the last mile."
Freshman Alex Vanias (Leroy, MI/Pine River) continued his strong rookie campaign finishing 22nd in 26:30, while seniors Jon Hans (Dearborn Heights, MI/Crestwood) and Andrew Hayner (Royal Oak, MI/U-D Jesuit) took 32nd and 38th, respectively, in 26:52 and 27:00.
Junior Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) recorded the only career best on the day with a time of 27:09, good for 41st place as well as securing UDM's top five finish.
"Kevin really came through and saved us today," added Murray.
The Titans will now train for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, set for Saturday, Nov. 15, in West Lafayette, IN, on the campus of Purdue University.
