The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team (4-12-1) will close out its 2009 regular season against Bowling Green (4-12-1) on Nov. 4 at Titan Field, with kick-off slated for 2 p.m.
Prior to the start of the game, UDM's five seniors: #Joe Hess# (Canton, MI/Canton), #Luke Paneccasio# (Sydney, Australia/Christian Brother Lewisham), #Brandon Powell# (Orion, MI/Lake Orion), Renato Susnja (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) and Simon Zahra (New South Wales, Sydney, Australia/Evans) will be honored for all of their hard work and dedication to the Titan men's soccer program.
Detroit holds a 3-6 record against non-conference opponents thus far this season, which includes a 2-0 victory over visiting IPFW on Oct. 22, which followed a 3-1 win at Western Michigan three days earlier. Susnja is tied with junior Nick Dreshaj (Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) in points with eight, while freshmen #Sam Seppo# (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) and #Adam Philp# (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's Catholic), along with Susnja, have each tallied three goals on the year.
Bowling Green heads into Tuesday's match having lost three-straight, with a most recent 2-0 loss against Buffalo at home on Nov. 1. The last win for the Falcons came against Wright State at home on Oct. 22 by a score of 3-0. Jason Lawrence and Cameron Hepple are tied for the lead among the Falcons with eight points. Lawrence has collected a team-high four goals and Hepple a team-best four assists.
Detroit is 5-14-1 all-time against BGSU, including a 2-1 loss on the Falcons home field last season (Oct. 24). The last time the Titans defeated BGSU was on Sept. 8, 2004 by a score of 1-0 in Detroit, MI.
Proceeding the match with the Falcons, Detroit will return to action on Nov. 6 when the #9 Titans will face #4 Green Bay in Wisconsin (8 p.m.) in the first round of the Horizon League Championship.
