Despite leading by two at the half, the Detroit women's basketball team dropped a 62-49 decision to the University at Albany Monday evening at the SEFCU Arena in Albany, NY.
The Titans (2-4) took the lead at 15:45 after freshman
Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Detroit Pershing) hit a 3-pointer to put the score at 5-3. Detroit was able to maintain its lead for the next 10 minutes, which included six points from senior
Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start), who ended with a team-high 14 points. Albany (1-6) tied the score at 14 with just over five minutes left in the half, but Brown scored two more points at 1:23 to help send Detroit into break with a 24-22 advantage over the Great Danes.

Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) knotted the score at 35 with a made free throw at 12:16 in the second stanza, but that was the closest Detroit would get to Albany as the Great Danes pulled away and took the first double-digit lead by either team (51-39) at 5:50 after Tiffanie Johnson hit one of her three treys of the night. Detroit shrunk Albany's lead to seven (51-44) after Brown made both of her attempts at the line at 4:29, but the Great Danes made seven free throws down the stretch to help secure its victory over the Titans.
Freshman
Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) shot 60 percent on the night to score a team second-best 12 points and she also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Brown added three steals and two assists in 32 minutes of play.
Three players scored in double figures for UAlbany, with Janea Aiken pouring in a game-high 19 points. Johnson scored 13, while Britney McGee added 12 points for the Great Danes.
Detroit shot 44 percent on the night, while Albany was 21-of-56 from the field (38 percent). The Great Danes made 11 from long range, which included five from Aiken, while the Titans shot 17 percent from beyond the arc.
The Titans will return to action when they face Bowling Green (4-2) in Ohio on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
