Box Score (in pdf)

Detroit's women's basketball team (4-7) was unable to come up with its third consecutive win as the Titans fell to Canisius College (8-4) by a score of 80-59 Sunday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY.

In just over a four and a half minute span in the opening stanza, Detroit went on a 8-0 scoring run to take a 12-11 lead at the 13:56 mark after junior Heather Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) made both of her attempts at the line. Junior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian), who ended with a team-high 14 points, and freshman Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) contributed to the scoring run as each added a field goal, along with one from Hatter.

UDM freshman Jaleesa Trussell (Racine, WI/Case) sank one from long range with just over 11 minutes remaining to give Detroit a 17-16 advantage. However, Canisius responded with a 13-2 run, which was snapped after Jones netted one of her two attempts at the line to put the score at 30-20 at 7:13. That was the closest the Titans could get to the Golden Griffins in the first half as Canisius ended up taking a 49-33 lead into the break.

The Golden Griffens had its largest lead of 28, twice, with the last happening at 10:02 after a made free throw from junior Tasia Lee to put the score at 66-38. Mulroy cut the deficit to 19 after nailing a trey with just over two minutes left (76-57) and freshman Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) also pulled the Titans within 19 in the closing seconds, but Detroit would not get any closer to Canisius.

Senior Zemora Davis (Detroit, MI/Community) and Allen both scored in double figures with 12 points each, while Mulroy and redshirt freshman Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) tied for a team-best eight rebounds.

Canisius sophomore Micayla Drysdale netted a game-high 18 points, which included six 3-pointers, while senior Marie Warner pulled down a game-best 12 boards.

Detroit shot 41 percent from the field (22-of-54), while Canisius had a 28-of-70 field goal showing (40 percent). The 14 made from beyond the arc for the Golden Griffens broke the previous school record of 12 made treys. Rebounds were even at 38 a piece, while CC committed only eight turnovers to UDM's 20.

The Titans continue play on the road as they will next face Loyola on Jan. 3 in Chicago at 1:30 p.m. EST.
