Men's Golf Finishes Second At Spartan Classic

Final Scoring

The Titan men's golfers braved rainy conditions Sunday to claim second place at the Spartan Classic, hosted by Michigan State at the nationally-renowned Kingsley Club.

Originally planned as a 36-hole, one-day shootout, the rain-swept event was shortened to 18 holes with the first group to tee off Sunday morning still nine holes away from completing the second scheduled round. Defending Big Ten champion Michigan State won the tournament with a 276 team total, while Detroit was next in line at 290.

Sophomore Jeff Clarridge led the Titans, and finished third overall, with an 18-hole score of 69. That matched his career low. Next in line was Clarridge's former high school teammate at Barrie (ON) Bear Creek, freshman Nolan Knill, who carded a 71 in his first college tournament.

The Titans return to action next Sunday and Monday at DePaul's John Dallio Memorial. UDM is the defending tournament champion.
