Full Results

Junior and two-time All-Horizon League honoree Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) returned from an early season injury to finish 48th in his first race of the season as the Detroit Titans men's cross country team took 21st at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday at EP Tom Sawyer Park.

“The course was wet in spots and soft throughout so not quite the firm PR course of the past two years,” said head coach Guy Murray. “As a team, we were not bad for a group that is just getting into its full training program.”

Liederbach returned to the course to lead the team with a time of 25:09. Behind him for UDM was senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park), who hit a personal record by 97 seconds, placing 134th in 26:00.

“It was good to have Pat back running well, but we all have plenty of work to do,” said Murray. “Alex is running fantastic and is a real key to the team.”

Sophomore Alex Vanias (Leroy, MI/Pine River) posted a 26:12 for 151st, but then the run of Titan PR's started with three straight runners and five of the next six harriers earning new marks. Sophomore Erik Westbrook (Fremont, MI/Fremont) got the trend going with a time of 26:26, a new career best by 80 seconds, to take 178th, while juniors Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) (185th -26:30) and Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON/Denis Morris Catholic) (194th-26:38) also reach the feat.

Junior Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) claimed 210th in 26:47, but then classmate Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) came in with a PR by 10 seconds finishing 214th in 26:49. Right behind Smalley was sophomore Bob Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY / Cleveland Hill) who improved by 74 seconds crossing the finish line in 26:51 for 217th. Freshman Edwin Gay (Grosse Pointe, MI/GP South) closed out the lineup with a time of 27:38, good for 271st place.

UDM will stay in state in its next event as the Titans will travel to Grand Rapids to compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate on Friday, Oct. 9.
