Split Varsity Squad Fares Well In Wet Conditions

Men's Results

Puddles and mud was the scene for the men's race as the Titans finished 14th at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by Calvin College at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

“A very tough day as the course really got torn up,” said head coach Guy Murray. “We did a nice job and this group will benefit from the race. It will be interesting to see how it turns out next week with the full team.”

With steady rain coming down for much of the day, the men's collegiate 8k race was the last of the four races in the event, leading to the course to a muddy state of affairs.

A split Titan squad that did not feature all of their varsity runners braved through the conditions led by senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park), who placed 55th in 26:47.

“Alex has made himself a cross country runner and a mud run like this is great proof,” noted Murray.

Junior Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) was next in 27:25 for 85th, while sophomore Erik Westbrook (Fremont, MI/Fremont) earned 96th in a time of 27:31.

Sophomore Bob Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) took 116th with a 27:56 run finishing just ahead of freshman Edwin Gay (Grosse Pointe, MI/GP South), who placed 118th in 28:00.

Rounding out the Titan squad was sophomores Gregg Saldutti (Waterford, MI/Our Lady Of The Lakes) (143rd – 28:38) and Derek Hoerman (Canton, MI/Canton) (156th-29:06) and junior Brian Greenhoe (Sand Lake, MI/Grant) (170th-29:40).

Detroit will now have one more tune-up before hosting the Horizon League Championships as UDM will run in the Falcon Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 10, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
