Freshman Mike Purdy-Sachs (Port Huron, MI/Home School) was the lone Titan fencer who traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico this past weekend to compete in the United States Fencing Association (USFA) Junior Olympics which is the premier competition for Cadets (under 17 years old) and Juniors (Under 20).
Purdy-Sachs completed the pool round with a 2-3 record which seeded him 121st entering the direct elimination round. From there, he quickly dispatched his first opponent 15-3 to advance to the next round where he faced Notre Dame sophomore Steve Kubic who finished with a 42-9 dual mark as a freshman. After a solid effort, Purdy-Sachs fell15-9 in a tough bout to finish 122nd overall.
