Box Score (in pdf)

The Detroit women's lacrosse team closed out its opening weekend with a 14-6 loss to Navy at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD, Sunday afternoon. The Titans now own a 1-1 overall record, while Navy improves to 2-0 on the year.

Freshman
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson Secondary) led the Titans with three goals, while freshman Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) added two and Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) tacked on another goal for Detroit.

Boissonneault opened up the scoring less than three minutes into the contest, which marks the second consecutive game in which she has scored first for the Titans.

“One of our goals heading into this game against Navy was to score the first goal, and we did just that,” said UDM head coach Mary Ann Meltzer.

Eidem also found the back of the net in the first half for Detroit, but the Mids went into the break with a 9-2 advantage.

“I am extremely proud of the players' efforts today,” commented Meltzer. “We played Navy close the first 15 minutes of the game and never gave up the rest of the way.”

Freshman Brett Yenger (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) was in net for the Titans the entire game and tallied 16 saves, while Navy freshman Elaina Ponchione collected 10 saves for the Mids.

Navy freshman Kierstin King tallied a game-high four goals, while sophomore Katrina Nietsch ended with a team second-best three goals for the Mids.

Each team collected eight ground balls in the second half and Detroit ended the contest with 19, while Navy had 26 on the afternoon.

The Titans will play their first-ever game at Titan Field on Feb. 28, with start time against Niagara slated for 11 a.m.
