Titans Open Spring Golf Schedule On Tuesday

Following a busy fall schedule, the Titan men's golfers have been idle until this week, when they open their spring campaign at the Treasure Coast Classic in Fort Pierce, FL.

The team will play 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday in a tournament field that includes the likes of defending champion Bethune-Cookman, St. Bonaventure and Boston College. It is UDM's first appearance in the invitational event.

In building towards another run at the Horizon League Championship, the Titans will begin the spring with a lineup that includes three holdovers from last year's HL runner-up grouping – two-time all-conference selection David Byrne, 2008 Newcomer of the Year Jeff Clarridge, and fellow sophomore Britt Pronk. Byrne led the way during the Titans' five fall tournaments with a 73.8 stroke average. Freshman Mark Hicks and junior Brian Sparks round out the UDM lineup this week.

"The guys have worked hard in practice over the weekend here in Florida to get ready for this tournament, and I think they're anxious to start competing," coach Mark Engel said. "It's a good field we're facing and we know we have our work cut out for us, but we think we'll be up to the challenge."
