Titans Downed By Bryant, 15-6

Box Score

Sophomore Matt Gregson (Flint, MI/Powers Catholic) and freshman John Nowicki (Clinton Twp., MI/De La Salle Collegiate) each netted two goals, but it was not enough as the UDM men's lacrosse team opened up its east coast trip with a 15-6 setback at Bryant on Friday night in Smithfield, RI. With the loss, Detroit fell to 0-6 on the year, while the Bulldogs moved to 4-4.

Detroit trailed from the start as Bryant put up two goals by All-American candidate Zack Greer six minutes into the contest. UDM would cut the deficit in half midway through the first period as Nowicki took a pass from freshman Vince Wigdahl (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) and fired it inbetween the pipes.

The Bulldogs responded, through, by scoring seven straight goals to break the game wide open. The Titans finally ended the run with six minutes to go in the second stanza when senior Kevin Demorest (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm) found the back of the net. Detroit inched closer later on as Nowicki notched his second goal with just 53 seconds left in the half.

After not scoring in the third, the Titans netted three goals in the fourth as Gregson added a pair, while Wigdahl tallied the last.

Junior goalkeeper Vince Diana (Massillon, OH/Jackson) made 11 saves in net for Detroit.

Detroit returns to action on Sunday as the Titans travel to Hamden, CT, to battle Quinnipiac. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
