Byrne Leads Titan Golfers at William & Mary

Final Results

Junior David Byrne posted the 19th Top 20 finish of his UDM career, leading the Titan men's golfers to 16th place Tuesday at William & Mary's First Market Bank Intercollegiate.

The tournament was staged at Kingsmill Resort's famed River Course in Williamsburg, VA.

The Titans improved by 10 shots over their opening-round tally of 311 – despite cold conditions following a one-hour frost delay – but couldn't move up in the standings. They finished three strokes behind Drexel in the battle for 15th place in the 22-team field.

Sophomore Britt Pronk had Detroit's best Tuesday round with a 72. Byrne was one shot back for the day, and his 74-73-147 overall score card was good enough for a 14th-place tie among the 114 players in the tournament.

“We were second at William & Mary a year ago, and it just shows you have to have everyone playing their best to really place well as a team in a strong tournament like this one. We haven't really hit on all cylinders yet this spring,” Titans coach Mark Engel said. “We had an awful lot of big numbers (double bogeys) over the course of two days, and that really stood in our way from finishing higher this time.”

The Titans will return to action April 11-12 at Indiana University's adidas Hoosier Invitational.
